Despite Cup Final Heartbreak, the Broncos Women Proudly Represented the South at the RFL's National Nines Competition

London Broncos Women were proud to take part in one of the standout events in the women’s rugby league calendar at the weekend, the 2025 Women’s Nines Festival. Organised by the Rugby Football League (RFL), this annual women’s-only tournament brings together teams from across the country for a day of fast, entertaining nine-a-side rugby league, celebrating the growing strength of the women’s game.

Drawn into Group B, Broncos faced tough opposition from St Helens, Huddersfield Giants, and Leamington Royals. Thanks to the club’s partnership with Rochdale Hornets, several additional players were given valuable game time as part of a competitive squad.

The group stage saw Broncos fall to an 18–4 defeat to Huddersfield before pushing St Helens all the way in a narrow 15–10 loss. They bounced back in style with a 30–0 win over Leamington Royals, booking a place in the Cup semi-finals.

A composed display against Hull KR earned a 10–0 victory and a spot in the Cup final against Leigh Leopards. In a thrilling, evenly matched contest, Broncos battled hard but were edged out by a single try in the final moments, with Leigh claiming a 15–8 win.

More than results, the day was about representing London and the South proudly in a competition dominated by northern clubs and Super League sides. The team’s performance was a reflection of the growth of women’s rugby league in the Capital and the fantastic progress being made within the club.

The Nines remains a brilliant celebration of the women’s game, growing in stature each year. Huge credit to the RFL and well done to all the teams and players who made it a memorable event.

The focus now returns to the Championship campaign, with Broncos unbeaten so far this season — winning every match aside from one draw. The team now prepares for two back-to-back home games at Chiswick on 20th and 27th July, as they continue their run towards the business end of the season.
