Semi-Final Preview

The London Broncos Women will host Salford Red Devils in the semi-final of the Northern Championship play-offs this Sunday 14th September at Chiswick RFC, kicking off at 2pm.

After a remarkable season, the Broncos finished top of the table with nine wins and a draw. A win here would take the team to the Championship Grand Final to be held on 28th September, with a historic opportunity to secure promotion to the Betfred Women’s Super League in 2026 under the new direct promotion arrangement. If successful, the Broncos would become the first Southern-based club to reach the Women’s Super League.

Salford arrive as a dangerous opponent, finishing fourth in the Championship but securing their place in the play-offs with a dramatic 22-18 win over Cardiff in the closing round. They have momentum and resilience on their side, and their ability to grind out results makes them a real threat to London’s ambitions. The Broncos, however, have been the standout side of the season, unbeaten apart from one draw, and with a well-balanced squad that has repeatedly shown depth, discipline and scoring power.

Playing at Chiswick with a passionate home crowd behind them offers London a significant advantage, and the team are eager to use that energy to take control early and establish dominance on familiar turf. The home side are also hoping to see some players return from stints away from the squad; including those who have previously made a big impact with their performances.

This is a landmark moment for the Broncos Women. With Warrington’s withdrawal opening up a direct promotion spot, victory in the Championship would mean an immediate step up to the Super League rather than a play-off against a relegated side. The club’s management, players and supporters know exactly what is on the line: not just a trophy, but the chance to change the landscape of the women’s game in London.

The Broncos go into this semi-final as favourites, their season’s form making them the team to beat, but Salford’s hunger and resilience ensure there will be no easy passage to the Grand Final.
