Broncos Show Grit in Hard-Fought Clash Against Top-Four Warriors
By London Broncos Women
The London Broncos Women faced one of their toughest challenges yet over the weekend, welcoming top-four Wigan Warriors to their home turf for a physically intense Challenge Cup clash.
The visitors came out firing, capitalising on early London errors to post 30 points in a dominant first-half performance. But true to their resilient spirit, the Broncos refused to back down.
In a much-improved second half, the Broncos tightened up their defence and held the high-flying Warriors to just 14 additional points, showing real grit and determination throughout.
Despite several promising opportunities, London couldn’t quite break through Wigan’s line, though not for lack of effort. On multiple occasions, the Warriors found themselves under real pressure, narrowly escaping as London pushed forward with intent.
Handling errors from both sides kept the game open and unpredictable, with momentum swinging back and forth. The Broncos spent long periods on the back foot, but their defensive resilience shone through, repeatedly halting Wigan’s advances.
Among the standout performances was debutant Caitlin Keefe, whose rugby league experience proved invaluable. Keefe made her presence known with a series of dominant tackles and a crucial second-half steal that lifted the Broncos' energy.
Player of the Match honours went to regulars Kathryn Salter (sponsored by Riley Bownes) and Rebecca Kemball (sponsored by South London Crabittohs), both recognised for their tireless work in defence and strong ball carries.
While the scoreboard didn’t reflect the full story, the Broncos’ heart and hustle were unmistakable. Their performance against one of the Super League’s top teams was a testament to their progress and potential.
There’s plenty to take away from this match, and the Broncos will look to build on these lessons as the season continues.
