Broncos Stun Swinton to go Top of the Table
By London Broncos Women
The Broncos delivered a commanding performance at Heywood Road, defeating the league leaders Swinton Lionesses 6-34 to move to the top of the table for the first time this season. The Broncos made an assertive start in the first half, crossing the whitewash several times to seize control early doors. Tries from Hunt-Pain, Bell, Cairns, Smart and King set the tone with incisive attacking play, and resolute defence kept Swinton on the back foot. London dominated both possession and territory, forcing Swinton into repeated errors and capitalising on the resulting opportunities. The Lionesses responded just before the break through Pritchard, who produced a long-range effort against the run of play.
Half-time: Swinton Lionesses 6-22 London Broncos
After the interval, the Broncos maintained their intensity despite a more stop-start run of play. Kennedy claimed not one, but two tries in this half, exploiting gaps in an increasingly fatigued Swinton defence. Swinton’s frustrations mounted, with a yellow card shown for a high tackle as the hosts struggled to contain the Broncos’ pace and physicality. Defensively, London were exceptional, repelling multiple sets on their own line and consistently pinning Swinton deep in their half, despite conceding a few more unforced errors themselves.
Rosie Cairns delivered an exceptional all-round performance, combining sharp attacking runs with relentless defensive work, and was deservedly named Player of the Match, proudly sponsored by UniPhi.
A huge win, a big statement, and a new team at the top of the Northern Championship.
